Help with Upgrading your User ID


Q:What happens if I choose ‘Yes’?

A: When you choose “Yes” you will be able to use your MyMerrill or Merrill Edge User ID and password to access Benefits OnLine®.

This means you will not need a separate User ID and password for Benefits OnLine. After you choose “Yes” you will be prompted to enter a MyMerrill or Merrill Edge User ID. You will then be shown the personal security image and phrase you selected for MyMerrill or Merrill Edge. However, as Benefits OnLine has other advanced security measures in place, you will not be shown your image and phrase when logging on to Benefits OnLine.

You will also be prompted to enter the password you use for MyMerrill or Merrill Edge.

After you have established your MyMerrill or Merrill Edge User ID and password for use with Benefits OnLine, any change you make to your User ID, password or security questions on any site will apply to both sites. However, as security email addresses are managed separately, any change to that email address on one site will not apply to the other site.

Q: What happens if I choose ‘No’?

A: If you choose “No” you will not be able to use an existing MyMerrill or Merrill Edge User ID and password to access Benefits OnLine. Any change you make to your user ID, password or security questions on any site will apply to that site only.

After you choose “No”, you will be prompted to enter a new User ID and password.

Q: How should I choose my new User ID?

A:Your User ID should be easy to remember. It must be between 6 and 32 characters using letters and numbers. It must contain at least one letter and cannot contain special characters or spaces.

Q: Why is my User ID field grayed out?

A:If your current user ID meets the new advanced security requirements then updating your user ID is not required. You can continue to use your existing user ID.

Q: What if I want to update my existing User ID and it already meets the security requirements?

A:You are able to change your existing user ID at any time by accessing the “Update Login Profile” link under “Account Preferences” on the home page.

Q: What if I receive a message that I cannot use my selected User ID?

A: Make sure you are choosing a User ID that is between 6 and 32 characters using letters and numbers. It must contain at least one letter and cannot contain special characters or spaces

Q:What is “Remember me”?

A:By checking “Remember me” you will save your User ID on this computer or device, so that you don’t have to retype it every time you login. To protect the security of your account, only your User ID will be saved. We will not save your password.

When you save your User ID, it is stored on the computer you are using. You should never save your User ID on a public computer.

Q: How should I choose my password?

A: Your password should be difficult for others to guess.  It is case sensitive and must be 8 to 20 characters, using at least one upper case and one lower case letter, and one number. The same number or letter should not be repeated more than three times in a row. Your password cannot contain any spaces or be the same as the user ID. Your password may contain the following characters @ # * ( ) + = { } / ? ~ ; , . - _

Q: Do I have to provide an email address?

A:Yes, your email address is needed to create your user ID and password. This email address will be used to allow you to retrieve your user ID if you forget it and for any login credential changes and/or updates. The email address you provide here is managed and stored separately from any email addresses you might have provided under your Delivery Preferences.
